Living between art and multiple sclerosis
The Healing Power of Art
Art holds incredible power: it can be a mirror, a refuge, and a warm embrace when we need it most. For me, art is how I return to myself. This is how In Her Light was born; a piece designed to touch the hearts of women who, like me, understand that self-love is a journey, not a destination.
Through every brushstroke, I explore themes of self-worth, softness, and presence. My goal is not perfection, but truth, the kind that lives beneath the surface, waiting to be seen and accepted.
Layers That Tell Stories of Growth
Creating this painting was a process of layers, not just on the canvas but in my life. I began with collage and gesso, adding depth and texture as a foundation. The phrases layered into the piece serve as quiet affirmations that live in the background but shape the whole.
The acrylics were applied in varying ways: some diluted to flow freely like emotion, others more defined to guide the composition. These choices mirror the contrast between vulnerability and strength that many of us carry.
Symbols of Tenderness and Authenticity
The abstract background and the florals simply decorative. They represent softness, new beginnings, and the beauty that comes with allowing ourselves to bloom without rushing. The plus-size woman portrayed in the piece smiles with the authenticity of someone who knows her worth, without needing to prove anything.
This is not a fantasy. It’s a portrait of real presence.
Resilience and Hope in Every Brushstroke
Living with multiple sclerosis has taught me to honor my limits, but also to see the strength in showing up as I am. Art has been a lifeline, helping me transform fear and uncertainty into beauty and strength. That’s why In Her Light is not just a painting: it’s a message of resilience, hope, and self-acceptance.
Each layer reflects the complexity of what it means to be a woman: strong and soft, brave and afraid, always becoming.
Invite the Light to Accompany You Daily
If this piece resonates with you, I invite you to bring it into your space. Let it be a reminder that you deserve love, respect, and care, especially from yourself. Place it somewhere you can see it often, and let its light remind you: you are worthy, just as you are.
