The Light That Comes from Within
True light doesn’t always come from outside; it often grows inside us, in that intimate space where our essence lives. In my artwork In Her Light, I aimed to capture the unique glow every woman carries, especially those who have walked paths full of challenges and growth.
There’s a quiet kind of strength that comes from embracing who we are, even when the world tells us to hide. This painting is about that power; the courage to be seen fully, without filters or apologies.
A Piece Reflecting Confidence and Beauty
In Her Light honors the presence of a plus-size woman smiling softly; not because she has to, but because she’s free. She smiles with the confidence of someone who has accepted and loved herself as she is.
The mixed media process; beginning with collage and gesso for texture, layering phrases about self-love and worthiness, and flowing fluid acrylics; mirrors the many layers that make up a woman’s story. You might notice some of the paper pieces peeking through beneath the paint, like moments we carry beneath the surface, shaping who we become.
The flowers suggest a quiet blossoming. Not loud, not forced, but natural, inevitable. Beauty that unfolds from within.
My Artistic Process as a Healing Space
As someone living with multiple sclerosis, painting has become a space of healing. When words fall short, art helps me release emotions and return to myself. Through texture, color, and intuition, I reconnect with parts of me I sometimes forget.
In Her Light is more than a painting, it’s a reminder. That even in difficult seasons, our inner light never goes out. It may flicker, it may dim, but it never disappears.
Creating this piece allowed me to hold space for my own story; my body, my journey, my truth. And I hope it holds space for yours too.
