Living between art and multiple sclerosis
Through art, I’ve discovered the freedom to be authentic, transparent, and honest with myself and those around me. By consciously choosing colors that, let’s say… feel true to myself, I can celebrate that authenticity as I paint my reality.
Moreover, art opens a window to my inner self. It has gradually become a unique way to explore my emotions. When I find myself facing a blank canvas, I see the pages of a diary. Just like they say, “paper endures everything,” so does a canvas.
Canvas Activation
To begin with, my process for releasing emotions starts with activating the canvas or whatever surface I’m painting on. This means making any mark with the material I’ve chosen—whether it’s pencils, markers, crayons, or most often, paper. However, I don’t just pick any paper; instead, I let my intuition guide me.
Furthermore, I’m fascinated by paper, especially if it’s vintage with cursive writing. It doesn’t even need to be readable. Honestly, I can’t quite explain it. Placing paper on the canvas or surface instantly brings me a sense of calm, relief, and peace.
Finding My Voice
Over the years, my creative process has evolved. Painting has allowed me to experiment, explore, and ultimately discover new ideas and techniques. This ongoing experimentation has helped me find my artistic voice.
Even though my process might change again—I can’t say for sure—painting has always been a way to release the emotional weight of living with multiple sclerosis.
In conclusion, remember that art is an inclusive practice that’s accessible to everyone, regardless of your artistic abilities. No matter what form of artistic expression you choose, the most important thing is to enjoy the process and do what brings you emotional relief and happiness.
