This mixed-media artwork showcases a plus-size woman in abstract realism; created on canvas using a combination of techniques that emphasize texture and vibrant color. Bathed in direct sunlight, the woman is seen gently caressing her hair, an expression of calm and self-assurance. Additionally, blue and peach-colored flowers seem to bloom from her, symbolizing growth, beauty, and strength.
The inspiration behind this piece was to celebrate our essence; embracing who we are, flaws and all, and recognizing the beauty that resides in authenticity. To bring this vision to life, I began by applying texture paste and gesso to the canvas using a paint roller. This technique not only created a rich, tactile surface but also enhanced the depth of the composition.
Furthermore, the texture serves as a striking contrast to the fluidity of the ink and paint, adding a dynamic quality to the overall piece. Once the foundation was set, I proceeded by layering acrylic inks and alcohol inks over the surface. This allowed the colors to interact with the texture, creating organic movement that infuses the composition with life and energy.

Moreover, the use of white paint in the background helps to soften the intensity of the colors, blending seamlessly with the surrounding hues. This softness contrasts beautifully with the boldness of the flowers and the woman’s presence, reinforcing the balance between calm and vitality. In fact, the interplay of these materials, along with the central figure, speaks directly to the complex journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
At the heart of this artwork, the woman symbolizes strength and renewal. The flowers that emerge from her represent the potential for personal growth, demonstrating that beauty can bloom even in unexpected places. Through the process of creating this piece, I wanted to explore the harmony between texture, color, and form, allowing the viewer to experience the same peace and confidence that the woman radiates. Ultimately, this painting serves as a reminder that we are always evolving, and true beauty lies in embracing our authenticity.
