Living between art and multiple sclerosis
Transformation in Silence
When I received my diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, I feared losing myself. The uncertainty felt overwhelming, and silence often carried my heaviest worries. However, through painting, I discovered a way to flow with change instead of resisting it. Art became both an anchor and a compass.
Whispers of Stillness reflects that lesson. Transformation rarely arrives with noise. In fact, it begins quietly, like the whisper of a butterfly’s wings. Therefore, this piece is not only a painting but also a meditation on resilience and stillness.
Symbolism Within the Artwork
This portrait shows a plus-size woman, her eyes softly closed, surrounded by hydrangeas and butterflies. Each detail carries meaning and purpose. Hydrangeas symbolize heartfelt understanding, reminding us that empathy deepens human connection. Butterflies embody change and renewal, teaching us that transformation is both fragile and powerful. Moreover, the yellow butterfly on her chest, touched with white and blue, reflects the resilience I must choose every day. As a result, her image becomes a reminder that strength can coexist with vulnerability, and serenity can bloom even during challenges.
My Creative Process
Creating her was both healing and revealing. I began with collage, adding fragments that represent hidden layers of my story. Then I used gesso for texture, just as MS has given unexpected depth to my life. Meanwhile, water powders flowed freely, reminding me to embrace what I cannot control. Afterward, acrylics shaped her form, and oils brought subtle warmth and light. Ultimately, every technique carried meaning, showing me that creativity builds bridges between struggle and serenity. Beyond that, the process taught me to trust the flow, even when the outcome felt uncertain.
