This mixed-media artwork on canvas features a plus-size woman with her eyes closed, surrounded by delicate white daisies, all rendered in an abstract realism style. At the very heart of the composition, a striking red-orange flower draws immediate attention, creating a vibrant contrast against the softer, more muted tones. This bold focal point not only adds visual interest but also reinforces the idea of standing out, even in the midst of gentleness and tranquility.
From the very first step, the creative process was an exploration of layering and movement. I began by building different textures using paper and gesso, ensuring the surface had a rich, dimensional foundation. After that, I introduced carefully selected patterns created with stencils to bring a sense of variation to the piece. Next, I framed the composition with a white border, which initially provided structure. However, rather than restricting the flow of color, I allowed pigment powders and acrylic inks to activate with water, letting them blend and move organically. As a result, the hues spread naturally across the canvas; therefore, creating a fluid, dreamlike effect that contrasts with the controlled elements within the frame.
Yet even though a border exists, it does not define or limit the subject. Her hair extends well beyond the edges, breaking free from the expected boundaries. Additionally, a delicate white daisy adorns her hair, serving as a quiet yet powerful reminder that beauty flourishes beyond imposed restrictions. This subtle detail holds significant meaning—it speaks to the essence of the piece, which is all about embracing authenticity without hesitation.

This artwork was deeply personal, inspired by my own need to escape overthinking and fully immerse myself in creative freedom. More than just a painting, it became a process of release; an opportunity to “get out of my head” and push past conventional artistic norms. As I built up the layers, I realized that this piece mirrored my own journey of finding balance. Each stroke and texture represent the coexistence of structure and spontaneity, a delicate dance between control and letting go.
In many ways, this painting serves as a reflection of life itself—structured yet unpredictable, fluid yet grounded. Through this piece, I hope to share more than just an image. Rather, I want to evoke a feeling—one that reminds us that creativity, much like life, flourishes when given the freedom to move beyond the lines we set for ourselves.
