This mixed-media abstract realism piece on canvas features a plus-size woman surrounded by flowers in shades of yellow, orange, and copper. Her blue hair, highlighted with metallic copper paint, adds depth and vibrancy to the composition. Notably, this artwork was the very first in our Flourish from Within collection, making it especially meaningful.
To begin, I started by applying gesso with a paint roller, which helped create varied textures across the canvas. Afterward, I added pigment powders with a subtle shimmer, activating them with water to let the colors flow naturally. Watching the pigments move across the surface is one of my favorite parts of the process; it feels organic, almost like the painting develops a rhythm of its own. Additionally, I used the same technique with acrylic inks, allowing them to blend freely and enhance the sense of movement. As a result, the interplay of these colors brings the entire piece to life, making each layer feel intentional and expressive.

One of the flowers stands out with a striking touch of copper leaf, catching the light and adding a luminous contrast to the surrounding hues. This delicate detail, therefore, reinforces the artwork’s essence—beauty exists in the layers, the textures, and the imperfections.
Through this piece, I wanted to celebrate the idea that we bloom in our own way and at our own pace. Strength and softness coexist, just as bold colors meet fluid forms on the canvas. Every brushstroke, every metallic reflection, and every textured element carries a message: self-acceptance is a journey, and every step is worth honoring.
Ultimately, this artwork serves as a reminder that growth is not about rushing to a final destination. Instead, it’s about embracing every phase, every layer, and every transformation along the way. Just like this painting, you are a work of art—unique, evolving, and beautifully your own.
