Living between art and multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis affects every aspect of a person’s life. From difficulties with everyday tasks like walking, dressing, or cooking, to limitations in work, and social relationships, MS drastically changes our daily reality.

As a result, living with multiple sclerosis requires constant adaptation. Additionally, it demands an ability to adjust that continuously challenges expectations.

The Invisible Struggle

Often, those of us with multiple sclerosis face the added challenge of dealing with others’ lack of understanding and empathy. However, my biggest struggle isn’t the lack of empathy, but rather the fact that people tend to see multiple sclerosis before me.

Without meaning to, they constantly remind me of my limitations instead of letting me try. Even though I might fall while attempting, I’d prefer the chance to prove myself. Even if in the end I have to admit they were right, it’s still my journey to take.

Painting as a Reflection of a Changing Identity

This is how art—or better yet, painting—eventually became my safe space. It is also my way of exploring my emotions and expressing the frustrations of living with a body that doesn’t always cooperate.

As a result, my artwork captures my emotional evolution. The changes are evident in every brushstroke, serving as a visual testimony and a reminder of my ability to adapt and grow.

Celebrating Personal Evolution

Through the colors I choose intuitively, I reclaim my autonomy and challenge the limitations multiple sclerosis has imposed on me. In doing so, each stroke becomes part of a visual narrative that evolves over time. Moreover, this process allows me to celebrate my personal growth and resilience, despite the challenges that come with living with MS.
