Rooted on Her Light was born in stillness. A moment where I allowed paper, texture, and emotion to guide me, without force, without rushing. This mixed media piece is more than a portrait of a plus-size woman; it’s a quiet affirmation of what happens when we choose to grow from what already lives within us.
Layers that tell stories
I began with layered paper to create a foundation of intention. Then came texture paste, adding depth and presence to the canvas. Small cursive stamps followed, not as decoration, but as quiet symbols. These delicate marks act like whispers of memory. They remind us that every part of our journey, even the silent parts, matters.
After that, I mixed colorful powders with water. I didn’t guide them; I watched them flow. The colors moved freely, merging and expanding like emotions that finally have room to breathe. In letting go of control, I made space for something honest to rise.
A figure that stands for more
The central figure stands calmly before a golden sunflower. Her eyes remain closed, as if savoring the present. Her bold pink lips and nails suggest quiet confidence. And the sunflower? It isn’t just a background. It’s a powerful symbol, a reminder that growth can be soft, and that light doesn’t have to be loud to be strong.
