Living between art and multiple sclerosis
Sometimes words are not enough. This is why art has transformed my experience with multiple sclerosis. Furthermore, it has reinterpreted my pain as an expression of strength and resilience. For me and other artists with multiple sclerosis, it has been like a means of liberation, an expression that goes beyond words.
Thus, giving art a chance has opened my creativity to challenge the physical, social, and emotional limitations associated with multiple sclerosis.
Liberation in Sincerity
Creating allows me to be honest with myself and with my audience. I use mixed media to express and share the struggles I face daily with multiple sclerosis; also, to share my everyday victories.
Moreover, practicing regularly stimulates my mind. This helps me think innovatively in other aspects of my life. Or, at the very least, it helps me with problem-solving and other cognitive issues associated with the disease.
The Art of Resilience
In each brushstroke, I find an escape route; also, a way to celebrate beauty even in the darkest moments and a way to celebrate life in all its complexity and wonder. Hence, art has been a way to find meaning amidst this illness.
Let me tell you, every time I face a blank canvas, I see it as a means to release my emotions. Since creativity has no limits, I can discover my own path of expression.
Empowerment
Artistic creation, as an act of truth, gives me the freedom to be authentic, transparent, and honest with myself and the rest of the world. Thus, painting has served to challenge expectations and define my authenticity on my own terms.
For example, colors have served to express my individual beauty, an authenticity that goes beyond words. The colors I gravitate towards celebrate my authenticity.
A Window
Painting has become a way to explore and understand my emotions and experiences in a unique and profound way. It has, definitely, proved to be a very powerful tool to share my story and celebrate my resilience.
As it allows me to express myself from the deepest part of my being, painting has become a safe space to process the impact that multiple sclerosis has had on my life. This, in turn, gives me a sense of relief and emotional liberation.
The act of painting becomes a way to release accumulated tensions and give voice to emotions that are difficult to express verbally, and it also opens a path towards self-acceptance. With each brushstroke on the canvas, stress levels are reduced, providing relief to alleviate the emotional burden.
Voice
Moreover, the creative process allows me to give voice to my fears and concerns associated with multiple sclerosis, releasing repressed emotions.
It is important to remember that art is a form of limitless self-expression that allows us to connect with ourselves and with the world around us.
